HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Jack ’n’ Roll

Plenty of journalists have logged long, tedious hours covering the Jack Abramoff scandal. But on Friday they’ll have a chance to rock out to tunes inspired by the fallen lobbyist.[IMGCAP(1)]The band Dirty Bomb, fronted by Reuters reporter Andy Sullivan (a veteran of the Abramoff beat), will debut its forthcoming Casino Jack-inspired concept album at the National Press Club’s Journopalooza concert.Sullivan tells HOH to expect tracks like “Phantom,— a tune that spins improbable subjects like Defense Appropriations subcommittees and Medicare supplemental funds into head-bobbing, beer-spilling grooves. Some of the money lyrics (note the obvious AC/DC reference): “She was an earmark queen, she kept her outlook clean.— Still skeptical that lobbyists, town cars and billable hours can make for a fun Friday night? There will be beer, plus other journo-bands Suspicious Package, the Charm Offensive and Nobody’s Business. In Other Abramoff News. Former Rep. Bob Ney might have landed in prison because of his relationship with Jack Abramoff, but it also landed him on the big screen.The Ohio Republican, who spent 17 months in prison for taking perks from Abramoff, is interviewed in a new documentary about the infamous lobbyist titled “Casino Jack and the United States of Money,— the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports. And Ney is so thrilled to have taken part in the movie that he even announced via Twitter that he’ll attend the film’s premiere at the glitzy Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 23 in Utah. Ney will be a familiar character on the silver screen in 2010: A feature film about the Abramoff scandal, similarly deemed ““Casino Jack,—— is set to be released later this year, with Kevin Spacey playing Abramoff and Jeff Pustil playing Ney.The former Congressman told the Plain-Dealer that he had hoped Brad Pitt would play him but doesn’t mind the “very handsome— Pustil taking the role. “—I would have played myself for a lot cheaper,—— Ney joked.Perhaps instead of the stock “fallen lobbyist— label, we should start referring to Abramoff as an “artistic muse.— Submit your hot tips, juicy gossip or comments here.Can’t get enough HOH?
