Top Tester Aide Named New Head of EMILY’s List

Stephanie Schriock, most recently chief of staff to Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), was named president of the influential abortion-rights group EMILY’s List on Wednesday, replacing Ellen Malcolm, the organization’s founder, who is stepping down in February.Schriock is well-respected in Democratic circles, with a résumé that includes stints as the national finance director for Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential campaign and Sen. Al Franken’s (D-Minn.) hard-fought 2008 campaign and recount.She was she was named by one of Washingtonian magazine’s “Forty Under Forty: Young Washingtonians to Watch— in 2007.“Stephanie very quickly earns the respect of everyone she meets because she’s a darn good leader and a great person to work with,— Tester said in a release. “Although she’ll be sorely missed in my office, her passion for doing what’s right will serve our entire country — and our kids and grandkids — for the better.—Malcolm, EMILY’s List’s president since the group’s founding in 1985, will move over to become chairwoman of the board of directors. The group boasts of having helped elect 80 pro-abortion-rights Democratic women who are U.S. Members of Congress, 15 U.S. Senators, nine governors and hundreds of women to state and local office in its 25 years in existence.
