Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) recently filed government paperwork registering a political action committee, the clearest indication yet that the “Contract With America— architect is seriously considering a 2012 presidential run.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, American Solutions PAC registered with the agency on Christmas Eve. Joe Gaylord, the board chairman of Gingrich’s grass-roots American Solutions for Winning the Future, confirmed Friday that the new political action committee “is a Gingrich operation.—

“We are going to use it to support candidates who support the ideas of the majority of Republicans, Democrats and independents,— Gaylord said.

The former House leader has told media outlets recently that he is pondering a 2012 run. Still, Gaylord said the new political committee is unrelated to Gingrich’s presidential aspirations.

A Gingrich spokesman was unavailable for comment on Friday.
