HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Making a Weekend of It

Sadly, the Presidents Day recess is nearly over, but some Members of Congress will spend those last few days before returning to Capitol Hill raising campaign cash in some pretty fun ways.

[IMGCAP(1)]Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.) is scheduled to kick off a “ski and spa retreat” on Friday at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, according to the Sunlight Foundation’s Party Time blog. Campaign donations — $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for political action committees — benefit Kind’s Badger PAC, according to the event invitation.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) is scheduled to similarly raise campaign cash, as her campaign is sponsoring a “Southern Hospitality Weekend” at the Alluvian Spa in Greenwood, Miss. Tickets cost $1,500 for individuals and $2,500 for PACs, according to the blog. But a scheduled fundraiser for Rep. John Shimkus is perhaps HOH’s favorite of the weekend: The Illinois Republican’s campaign is scheduled to hold a weekend-long event at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. Tickets cost $1,500 for individuals and $2,500 for PACs.

Overheard on the Hill. “Happy that Evan Lysacek brought home the gold for team USA, but still think my fave Johnny Weir was robbed, should have bronzed :-”

— Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.), reacting via Twitter to the results of Thursday night’s men’s figure skating finals at the 2010 Winter Olympic games.
