HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Blog Blockage

House staffers looking for their daily John Feehery fix on Wednesday were surprised to find that access to the GOP staffer-turned-consultant/talking head’s blog, thefeeherytheory.com, had been blocked on their computers.

[IMGCAP(1)]Conspiracy, er, theories abounded as to why: Were Feehery’s critiques of Democrats’ health care proposals too explosive? Were his musings on home renovations too hot for work hours?

The author himself said he got complaints from his Capitol Hill readers but couldn’t get an explanation from House techies for the blackball. “We don’t live in China, do we?” he asked HOH.

But the real reason has more to do with technology than ideology. Jeff Ventura, spokesman for House Chief Administrative Officer Dan Beard, explained to HOH that Feehery’s site was deemed to have coding on it that made it “unsafe” and thus not able to be seen by those behind the House computers’ firewall. “It is being blocked for a code problem, not a content problem,” he says.
