HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Dakota Double Take

Do all North Dakotans look alike? One Nevada newspaper seems to think so.

[IMGCAP(1)]The Las Vegas Review-Journal editorialized this week about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), blasting his appointment of his “cronies” to a commission tasked with bringing the federal deficit under control. The editorial, though, confused Democratic North Dakota Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan.

Conrad, who was named to the panel, “announced his retirement this year,” the editorial said. But wait — that’s not Conrad retiring, that’s Dorgan. The paper eventually attached a correction, but not before causing a few titters on the Hill.

“There are only like 23 people in North Dakota,” one staffer cracked. “You’d think they could keep them straight.”

Overheard on the Hill. “You’re from South Carolina … but you don’t seem insane.”
