Durbin Back in Action Following Surgery

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) will attend the Illinois State Fair on Wednesday and should be back to a full schedule by the end of the week after undergoing surgery Thursday, aides said.

Durbin, 65, had a small gastrointestinal stromal tumor removed from his stomach.

He was released from the University of Chicago Medical Center on Friday and resumed a “light” schedule of work activities over the past several days, according to his office.

Durbin will also attend a handful of campaign events for state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, who is running for Senate, Giannoulias’ campaign has said.
