[IMGCAP(1)]On Aug. 24, 1938, Republican National Committee Chairman John Hamilton met in Washington, D.C., with 15 state Republican Party chairmen to prepare for the upcoming elections, in which the Republicans won a net 72 seats in the House and six in the Senate from President Franklin D.
