HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Coming Into Fashion

We’re no experts in Internet traffic, but HOH suspects that during Congressional recess periods, Capitol Hill sees a rise in those using the Web to do a little bit of clothing shopping.

And for those unsure of what to buy for work this fall, Marie Claire magazine recently sought the advice of a former Capitol Hill staffer.

Andrea Tantaros, a one-time GOP Hill aide and current Fox News analyst, shares her ideas for “Chic Office Styles” with the fashion magazine.

Her advice includes a bit of political wisdom, as Tantaros urges readers to “stick to one trend at a time so you don’t mix style messages” and “devise a five-year plan: Ask yourself if your ‘dream’ purchase will go the distance.”

Tantaros recommends a handful of individual pieces, including a $275 skirt from Kate Spade, a $1,995 handbag by Chloé and a $6,600 watch by Cartier — items that probably aren’t in the budget for most Hill staffers. But Tantaros also picks out a few bargain buys, such as a $39.50 cardigan by American Eagle Outfitters and a $39.50 pair of white pants from the Gap.

Others offering up office style advice are Lisa Finkelstein, the jewelry design director for J. Crew (a favorite brand of first lady Michelle Obama), television producer Sepi Makabi and rocker Elizabeth Hart.
