Heard on the Hill: From Senator to Tour Guide

While many in Congress brought family members to the State of the Union address, Sen. Sherrod Brown opted to take a wounded soldier to this year’s festivities.

HOH spotted the Ohio Democrat giving a tour of the Capitol to Lance Cpl. Cory Szucs of Fairview Park, Ohio. The 20-year-old Marine, dressed in a suit and walking with a cane, was injured on duty in Afghanistan. He is currently recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

During the tour, Brown was overheard telling Szucs that he needs to come visit the Capitol again one day when Statuary Hall isn’t packed with reporters looking to chat with Members about the SOTU.

“You want to spend time looking at the statues in this room,” the Ohio Democrat said. “There are some really great ones.”
