Heard on the Hill: Takes One to Know One

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee doesn’t have the greatest reputation on Capitol Hill. The Texas Democrat is known more for her sometimes-quirky behavior — remember when she showed up at Michael Jackson’s funeral? — than for her legislative accomplishments.

Jackson Lee also has a reputation for verbally attacking her staff. In fact, she has repeatedly been named the “meanest” lawmaker in Washingtonian magazine, and last week the Daily Caller published a story featuring many former Jackson Lee staffers venting about their miserable time in her office.

And while some say Jackson Lee is a bully, it turns out she is against kids doing the same thing. Earlier this year she introduced the Bullying Prevention and Intervention Act, which allows the use of juvenile accountability block grants for bullying-prevention programs.

“Considering the consistent rumors about that office and the story that recently appeared in the Daily Caller, this seems more like a sick joke than a legitimate legislative effort,” a tipster tells HOH.

Sounds like Jackson Lee may be living by the mantra, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Jackson Lee’s office did not immediately return calls for comment.
