HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Strike Up the Band

Lawmakers, C-list celebrities and military personnel are coming together next week at the Seventh Annual Armed Forces Foundation Congressional Gala.

Scheduled for Wednesday at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, the awards honor “the commitment and sacrifice of our nation’s military while recognizing the contributions and commitment of their civilian supporters.”

More than 70 Members of Congress are expected to attend, including Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif.).

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of support on the Hill for years now,” says Patricia Driscoll, president and executive director of the Armed Forces Foundation. “When it comes to supporting our military, it’s not a party issue. It’s a matter of doing the right thing.”

Adam Richman of the Travel Channel’s “Man v. Food” will also be in attendance, as will NASCAR President Mike Helton and several NASCAR Spirit Cup drivers.

David Hill, CEO of Fox Sports, and NASCAR team owner Richard Childress will receive awards, and the event will be emceed by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade.
