GOP Senators Hosting LeMieux Fundraiser

Former Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.), seeking to get his old gig back, will have some fundraising help from a dozen of his former colleagues.

Twelve GOP Senators are on the “honorary host committee” for a June 23 lunchtime fundraiser in Washington, D.C., to benefit LeMieux’s Senate primary campaign, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by Roll Call.

Sens. Roy Blunt (Mo.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Susan Collins (Maine), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), John McCain (Ariz.), James Risch (Idaho), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Pat Roberts (Kan.) are listed on the invitation.

LeMieux is facing former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner and state Senate President Mike Haridopolos in what has become a crowded GOP primary to face two-term Sen. Bill Nelson (D).

There’s little doubt it’s going to be an expensive race. Haridopolos had a barn-burner of a fundraising quarter earlier this year, raising more than $2.6 million by the end of March. LeMieux announced his candidacy in early April and therefore will not file his first fundraising report until after this quarter ends June 30. Nelson had almost $4.6 million in the bank at the end of March.
