HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Baucus Getting Hitched

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (Mont.) announced to his Democratic colleagues Wednesday that he will be tying the knot Saturday with former staffer Melodee Hanes.

“Max and Melodee are looking forward to celebrating their special day with close friends and family at the Sieben Ranch outside Helena this weekend,” Baucus spokeswoman Kate Downen told HOH on Thursday. “They feel blessed to start their new life together under the Big Sky in a place so close to their hearts.”

We hear it will be a pretty low-key “boots and jeans” kind of affair. So are the almost-newlyweds miffed that the debt ceiling hoopla has crashed into their special day?

Nah. The two will more than make up for any fun that they might have had this week when they go hiking this August in Glacier Park, one of their favorite getaway spots.

The couple got engaged last Christmas. Their relationship made headlines when it was discovered that Baucus recommended Hanes to be a U.S. attorney in 2009. Hanes withdrew her name from consideration before the story broke.

Fun fact: The Sieben Ranch, where the wedding will be held, is run by the Senator’s brother, John, and has been in the Baucus family for generations.
