Although the newly released Minnesota Congressional reapportionment map has drawn Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) into Rep. Betty McCollum’s (D) 4th district, a Twin Cities Member-vs.-Member race is not in the cards.

Bachmann will continue to run in the 6th district, even though her residence does not fall within the new lines, according to a source in her camp. At first glance, Minnesota Republicans say, the new 6th district actually improves a Republican’s chances of winning.

Bachmann sent an email to her large email list of supporters Saturday expressing concern over her new lines before the map’s release.

“All eyes will be on the outcome of the new districting maps, and the Democrats and liberal media are on the edge of their seats in hope that I will have a highly challenging re-election,” she wrote.

One of the other Members whose district lines were closely watched was Rep. Chip Cravaack (R). Cravaack won in an upset in 2010, and his seat remains largely unchanged and highly competitive in the new map.

Minnesota neither gained nor lost seats in redistricting.

Today was the deadline for the state Legislature and Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton to agree to a redistricting map.  No such agreement came to be, so the state Supreme Court chief justice appointed a panel to draw the new state lines.
