Now Married, George Demos Can and Does Put $1 Million into Campaign

While many people are complaining about Congress, a congressional candidate from Suffolk County, New York, has just put $1 million into his race to be a U.S. Representative from the 1st Congressional District of New York.

The campaign committee of George G. Demos, R-N.Y., Friends of George Demos, reported today it had received a loan of $1,000,000 from the candidate on 9/27. The loan has no due date, no interest rate and it is not secured. The committee reported no other receipts or disbursements during the third quarter ending 9/30.

George Demos is a former prosecutor with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He ran in the 2010 Republican primary receiving 30% and coming in second. In 2012, he ran again, raised and spent $354,649 but withdrew in May 2012 due to his upcoming wedding. View his 2011-2012 campaign financial profile.

His personal financial statement filed in 2012, shows a maximum upward range of $365,000. In 2012, he married Chrysa Tsakopoulos, the daughter of Angelo K. Tsakopoulos, founder and chairman of the real estate firm, AKT Development Corporation. Angelo Tsakopoulos has been a major democratic donor over the years. President Bill Clinton provided him a night in the Lincoln bedroom. President Barack Obama appointed another daughter, Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis, to be ambassador to Hungary. She left that post in July 2013.
