Federal Election Commission Returns to Full Membership

, a Democrat, was sworn in on Friday. She had been the chairwoman of the California Fair Political Practices Commission since 2011, after appointment by Gov. Jerry Brown. Commissioner Ravel”s term will expire on April 30, 2017.
Before leaving the FPPC this week, she and the California attorney general announced a $1 million settlement in a case involving several out-of-state groups that funneled, but did not disclose, $11 million into two California organizations which were making expenditures on California ballot initiatives in 2012. Ravel stated, “This case highlights the nationwide scourge of dark money nonprofit networks hiding the identities of their contributors.”
Ravel replaces Cynthia Bauerly, who left the commission in February of this year.
On Oct. 22, Republican Lee E. Goodman was sworn in as a new FEC commissioner. Goodman had been an attorney at the law firm of LeClairRyan. Goodman replaces Donald McGahn, who left the commission in September. Commissioner Goodman’s term will expire on April 30, 2015.
