What role can big data play in the oil and gas industry?  

The Houston Business Journal covered the “MIT Enterprise Forum Texas chapter’s Feb. 19 discussion on big data” and reports that “data scientists from some of Houston’s largest energy companies discussed how big data can be used to advance the oil and gas industry. However, at the end of the discussion, panelists expressed differing opinions on the future of staffing data scientists.”  

“The panelists from the oil and gas industry held that data science is an incredibly important skill, so more young people should be trained in this field, then energy companies will recruit them.”
