Good thing the next Congressional Women’s Softball Game is a year away.  

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., tore her hamstring Wednesday night as she was rounding the bases during the annual charity softball game and will be sidelined for “at least a couple of weeks” as she undergoes physical therapy for the injury, her office said Thursday afternoon.  

Despite Wasserman Schultz’s injury early on in the game, the female members of Congress went on to defeat the female reporters in a triumphant 10-5 win — taking back the coveted trophy after a two-year slump.  

“She was disappointed not to be able to finish the game but she got a few good hits and field plays in before her injury, and was honored to get to catch her friend Gabby Giffords’ opening pitch as the game started,” said Sean Bartlett, Wasserman Schultz’s communications director. “Ever the trash-talker, she also said that the members winning the trophy back is the greatest painkiller of all!”  

Giffords, who got rousing applause when she threw the first pitch of the game to Wasserman Schultz, did some trash talking herself before the event — which raises money for young women undergoing breast cancer treatment .

Giffords also had some words of encouragement for Wasserman Schultz after the injury.
