Boehner: ‘McCarthy Would Make an Excellent Speaker’

Following a surprise announcement that he will resign at the end of October, Speaker John A. Boehner on Friday indirectly endorsed House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to succeed him during a 1 p.m. news conference, telling reporters he would be an “excellent” speaker.“Listen, I’m not going to be here to vote on the next speaker, but that’s up to the members,” Boehner said. “But having said that, I think that Kevin McCarthy would make an excellent speaker.” Read more.
