Staffer by Day, Dailey Method Studio Owner by Night
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has its very own workoutaholic. Tim Torres has been the committee’s deputy IT director for five years. Last month, he launched a barre and cycle studio, the latest outlet for The Dailey Method, on U and 12th streets NW.

On a typical day, Torres arrives at the studio around 5 a.m. and leaves for Capitol Hill at 8:30 a.m. At about 6 p.m., he goes back to the studio. “I’m still getting the hang of trying to find time to sleep,” he told HOH. Torres and friends had been kicking around the idea of opening a studio since 2014. “A friend and I just had a conversation about starting a business with his wife, who at that time taught barre,” he said. “I’ve always been entrepreneurial.” They worked through the permit process in Washington, D.C., found the space and received a loan through the Small Business Administration.
When Torres isn’t taking care of IT for Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., he’s taking care of sound issues in the studio, he says. While he doesn’t teach classes, he said, “I take barre; I’ve taken probably more than I can count.”
He also is the founding member of a nonprofit, Mercy Kids Africa, which provides assistance to children in Zambia. “I like the ability to leverage business to give back to the community,” he said. “I would like to leverage [the Dailey Method] to help give back to causes.”
Torres hopes to continue to run the studio and work on the Hill at the same time. “If anyone has entrepreneurial desires, it’s not as hard as people think. It’s a lot of work but it’s doable,” he said.
Those interested in checking out the studio can sign up for the $99 5-week Barre and Cycle special and use the code HeardOnTheHill for a free 15 minute one-on-one with a teacher.
