Actress Robin Wright, who plays the viciously manipulative first lady Claire Underwood on “House of Cards “, said she insisted on equal pay on the hit Netflix show.   

“I was like, ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin,’” she said at the Rockefeller Foundation in New York on Tuesday, referring to co-star Kevin Spacey who stars as the show’s conniving president, Frank Underwood.

“It was the perfect paradigm,” Wright said, according to The Huffington Post. “There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal. And they are in ‘House of Cards.’ I was looking at the statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on it. I was like, ‘You better pay me or I’m going to go public.’ And they did.”  

The 50-year-old actress also serves as a producer and director of the show .  

In 2014, Business Insider reported that Spacey was making $500,000 per episode. The Netflix drama has been renewed for a fifth season to be released in 2017.
