The presumptive Democratic nominee’s visit to the Senate ended with broken glass.

As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was leaving the Capitol after lunch with Senate Democrats , a van in her motorcade crashed into construction scaffolding outside the Senate’s carriage entrance.

The Clinton campaign told reporters at the candidate’s next event, a campaign rally in Annandale, Va., that the van was being used for staff. Senate sources had been under the impression it was carrying members of the traveling press corps.

“The poor driver literally drove into scaffolding. And the windows exploded,” a Clinton campaign aide said. But reporters and producers who regularly cover Clinton said they had already headed south.

Personnel from the construction company working outside the Senate wing of the Capitol were assessing any damage to the structure Thursday afternoon.
