After the controversy surrounding Melania Trump’s possible plagiarism in her address the first night, Republican nominee Donald Trump’s children were largely in charge of reassuring conservatives he shared their interests.  

Trump has often been known for sending nasty notes to reporters or politicians or insulting his opponents on Twitter.  

By contrast, his daughter Tiffany, a recent graduate from her father’s alma mater,  University of Pennsylvania, talked about her father’s notes on her report cards when she was a kid.  

“Because I like to see the sweet notes,” shes said.   

Trump has often been criticized by social conservatives for his multiple marriages and philandering. As a result, Tiffany, who is the product of his second marriage, to Marla Maples, talked about his caring nature.  

“My father always asks about my family in Georgia,” she said and pointed out that her great grandfather is a World War II veteran, which would likely highlight Trump’s commitment to vets.  

Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. also mentioned how he taught his granddaughter to swing a golf club.  

Trump has also been criticized for his hiring of workers who were in the United States illegally and had numerous business failures.   

When describing his father’s business, he said from the time he could walk he would see his father in business dealings and that many people in the highest ranks of his business started in blue collar positions, calling him “my mentor, my best friend, my father.”  

“We didn’t learn from MBAs,” he said. “We learned from people who had doctorates in common sense.”  

The older Trump has been frequently criticized for not being sufficiently committed to small-government ideals. However, Donald Jr. rattled off a list of red meat platitudes about everything from gun owners’ rights, over regulation and criticizing the financial reform law, Dodd-Frank.  

“Dodd-Frank is consumer protection for billionaires,” he said.
