Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said he would likely back a Democrat against former Ku Klux Klan leader, David Duke, who is running for the Senate in Louisiana.  

“I guess, depending on who the Democrat, but the answer would be yes,” Trump said Sunday in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”  

Trump referenced criticism he received a few months ago, when he was slow to disavow Duke and white supremacists who were backing his campaign.

Trump went to answer the Duke question before “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd could ask it.  

“In fact, I went to answer you before you [finished] …last time with another person in this position, I did it very quickly. And they said, ‘He didn’t do it fast enough,'” Trump said. “Rebuked. Is that okay? Rebuked, done.”  

Duke announced his candidacy for the Senate on Friday, claiming credit for several pillars of the “America First” agenda that helped propel Trump to the Republican presidential nomination.
