After a canceled meeting left both pointing the finger at each other, President Donald Trump will meet with Rep. Elijah E. Cummings on Wednesday to discuss prescription drug prices.

The Maryland Democrat will be joined by fellow Democratic Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont and Dr. Redonda G. Miller, the president of the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

“The president promised, both during the campaign and after, that he would support efforts to stem the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs, so I am looking forward to discussing ideas he said he supports,” Cummings said.

Cummings and Trump were supposed to discuss the issue last month, but the president said in a news conference that Cummings had backed out for political reasons.

Trump speculated at the time that someone like Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer — or “some other lightweight” — had told Cummings not to have the meeting.

Cummings responded that Trump had made up that story.

“I’ve never even had a conversation with Chuck Schumer about the president — ever, ever — so I don’t even know what he’s talking about,” Cummings said at the time. “I’m 66 years old and I make my own decisions.”
