Librarian of Congress Hayden to Throw Out First Pitch
She'll do the honors for hometown Baltimore Orioles when Washington Nationals play there Monday
Carla Hayden, the first woman and first African-American librarian of Congress, will now be the first African-American woman librarian of Congress to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game.
Hayden has the honors Monday when the Washington Nationals play the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore.

Sorry, Nationals fans, but her roots are in Baltimore — she led the Enoch Pratt Free Library in the Maryland city from 1993 until becoming librarian of Congress.

Hayden was sworn is as the 14th head of the Library of Congress in September. In her previous career, she worked to keep a Baltimore library branch open when riots rocked the city in 2015 after Freddie Gray died in police custody. She started her career in the Chicago Public Library system.
