Rep. Mia Love is getting an assist Friday from former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who will speak at Love’s campaign rally in Thanksgiving Point, Utah.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 GOP presidential nominee, won the Republican primary in June to replace retiring Sen. Orrin G. Hatch.

The Friday night rally will feature more than 40 local politicians.

Love, who represents Salt Lake City and much of its surrounding suburbs, is among the most vulnerable House members this fall as Republicans look to stave off a so-called blue wave and retain their House majority.

President Donald Trump carried Utah’s 4th District in 2016, but with less than 40 percent of the vote.

Local polls have shown Love either in a virtual tie with her Democratic challenger, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, or slightly leading him, with a sizable chunk of voters still undecided.

“Voters are pretty busy now” with summer vacations and other personal business, said Love’s campaign polling consultant, Scott Riding of Y2 Analytics. “Usually, undecided voters in the race start to tune in about Labor Day.”
