Hours after dismissing as a joke President Donald Trump’s praise of a Republican congressman who assaulted a reporter, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise came to the defense of a Democratic political foe who, ironically, was confronted by an angry mob. 

The Louisiana lawmaker has been one of the lead Republicans attacking Democrats as an “angry mob” after several reported incidents of violence or threats against GOP candidates and volunteers.

But on Friday, Scalise condemned a report of a mob that confronted House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi at a campaign event in Florida.

In a video posted on Twitter by Daily Caller reporter Benny Johnson, a group of protesters is shown shouting and cursing at the California Democrat as she enters the event for 27th District Democratic nominee Donna Shalala. One person calls her a “f—ing communist,” while others repeat the insult in Spanish.

One protester calls Pelosi a “piece of s—” and, as she enters the venue, says, “F— you and your f—ing Democrats.”

Once she is inside, the protesters start pounding on the door as they continue to shout insults such as “Socialism sucks” and “Open up, it’s the Proud Boys in here.” A member of Pelosi’s security detail opens the door — her words are inaudible, though she’s presumably asking the protesters to stop. But they continue the pounding once she shuts the door.

Scalise said on Twitter that while he doesn’t agree with Pelosi’s agenda, the Florida mob’s actions are “absolutely the wrong way” to express such disagreements.
