President Donald Trump intends to appoint Eric Ueland, a senior White House aide with vast experience in the Senate, as the next director of legislative affairs at the White House.

A source familiar with the plan confirmed the expected announcement to CQ Roll Call, which was first reported by Axios.

Ueland, currently the deputy director of the domestic policy council, worked in a number of roles, including as staff director of the Senate Budget Committee. A noted procedural expert, he is perhaps best known from his time as chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.

He had been nominated early in the Trump administration to be under secretary of State for management. but he did not get through to a confirmation vote and the nomination was withdrawn in June 2018.

Ueland replaces Shahira Knight, whose departure was announced in late May.
