A losing presidential campaign made a late winner out of a small campaign merchandise company in Maryland when the campaign sent a check to the company for almost $450,000. Romney Victory Inc., a joint fundraising committee for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, reported that it paid the GOP Shoppe in Glen Burnie, Maryland, $449,175 on 7/19 for "t-shirts/bumper stickers/pins." The company finally sent the correct bill and the campaign paid for campaign merchandise used in last year's election. The committee is winding down and still receiving refunds and rebates from companies, including $262,500 during the third quarter. It reported $470,370 cash on hand as of 9/30. In the first quarter of 2013, the committee refunded 398 contributions totaling $511,330. Five of the refunds were for more than $25,000. They included $50,000 to Heron Capitol Partners Ltd LP (TX); $50,000 to Physicians Reciprocal Insurers (NY); $39,200 to James Carr (RI); $35,000 to Wendy Barensfeld (PA); and $34,200 to Stephen Finn (CO).
