Rep. Castle Raised Little But Still Has Lots of Cash

Delaware Republican Rep. Michael N. Castle didn’t raise much money in this year’s third quarter, but he has substantial surplus campaign funds that he can use for his just-announced Senate campaign.

Castle raised just $57,600 in the months of July, August and September, according to a report his House campaign committee filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission. Nearly all of Castle’s third-quarter take came from political action committees and just $1,950 came from individual donors.

But Castle began October with $853,000 left in his campaign account, and he is permitted to use all of those funds on a Senate race in a state where waging a top-flight statewide campaign is not prohibitively expensive.
