State Sen. Donald McEachin easily won the Democratic nomination in Virginia’s 4th District Tuesday night.

He carried 74 percent of the vote with 72 percent of precincts reporting.

Congressional redistricting made the 4th District a safe Democratic seat. Its current representative, GOP Rep. J. Randy Forbes, ran for the GOP nomination in the neighboring 2nd District and lost.

McEachin is expected to win the November general election.
